Many organisations offer teacher training.
What makes Macmillan Teacher Campus different?
Tailor-made training for teachers
Macmillan Teacher Campus offers an alternative to the existing training courses
and workshops. Current training, which includes accredited courses, are very
generic and Macmillan Teacher Campus offers customised training especially
designed for the classroom environment.
Macmillan Teacher Campus envisages equipping teachers with the necessary skills
and knowledge to make a difference in the classroom and also to renew teachers’
enthusiasm and commitment to their calling.
Understanding of the curriculum
Macmillan has been publishing for the South African school market for more than
three decades. The developers of the course material as well as the facilitators
have a thorough knowledge and practical understanding of the curriculum and
challenges teachers face when they implement the curriculum.
Understanding of teachers’ needs
Schools are Macmillan’s core business and we are in contact with teachers and
principals on a daily basis. As a result of this we are thoroughly aware of the
needs and concerns of teachers in the classroom, as well as the specific
challenges facing teachers especially in rural schools.
Awareness of developments in education and the curriculum
Macmillan is also at the cutting edge of changes and developments in education
especially at school level, in order for our school textbooks to meet the
requirements of the educationalists as well as the National Education
Department. As a result of this, we are very knowledgeable of the new curriculum
and the applicable policies.
The latest National Department of Education (DoE) policies
The most recent NCS policies were used in the design of the training courses and
workshops.
Experienced facilitators
All facilitators are qualified and experienced educators, and registered
assessors and moderators.
On teachers’ doorsteps
Macmillan Teacher Campus strives to make training and development opportunities
easily available to all teachers. Courses and workshops could be conducted on
special request, at any place or venue, provided that there are a minimum of 15
people attending the course.

Methodology
Facilitators use the teachers’ knowledge and experience as a point of departure.
A variety of facilitation methods are used to enhance learning such as group,
pair and individual work. Teachers apply what they have learnt in the
course/workshop, reflect on it and discuss their challenges. This interactive,
hands-on approach aims to link theory to practice, and make a difference in the
classroom.
Course/workshop material
All our training material has been developed by experts in their field with
alignment to all educational policies and DoE requirements. These experts have
hands-on experience of classroom teaching as well as in the training of
educators.
Support
To ensure that the teachers can apply the newly acquired skills in their
classroom, a Tracer Study could be conducted after completion of a course if
requested. Should any gaps be identified, support will be given telephonically,
via email or by a short follow-up course.
Macmillan Teacher Campus strives to provide teachers with a positive training
experience and a gateway to career success through life-long learning.
